Birthday Cake Designs

Birthday cake designs are important because the birthday cake serves as the centerpiece for the birthday party. Birthday cake designs should incorporate the interests and likes of the birthday girl or boy. The creativity of birthday cakes has expanded significantly in recent years. Simple sheet cakes still highlight birthday parties because they are easy to make and tend to serve more guests.

Birthday cake ideas can be taken from the interests or hobbies of the guest of honor. Favorite characters, movies or television shows are popular choices for birthday cake ideas. Sports or other hobbies can be incorporated in the design too. The size of the birthday cake may influence the final design. Determine the number of guests and amount of cake needed. If the chosen design will not feed all of your guests, make an extra sheet cake or perhaps some cupcakes. Sheet cakes are a basic style for birthday parties. A sheet cake is one layer and is rectangular in shape. Sheet cakes often are iced smooth with a shell or star border around the top and bottom edge. Sheet cakes can be decorated to fit any birthday party theme. Edible images can be placed directly on the iced cake. These are available in a variety of characters and themes. New toys can be placed on top of a sheet cake to relate to the theme. This decorating technique requires little experience, since the toys are the main decoration. The toys on the cake can double as a gift for the birthday child.

Fun Baby Shower Game

Fun Baby Shower Game

Looking for a fun baby shower game for your guests? A fun baby shower game that we found is a baby shower version of Mad Libs. The object of Mad Libs is to produce a humorous story by using word substitutions. Word descriptions are followed by blank spaces. Players fill in these blank spaces with words that match the descriptions. Most word descriptions are simple parts of speech, like “noun”, “verb”, “adjective”, etc. When complete the story will be funny, crazy, ridiculous or just plain dumb. You can never tell till the story is read back.

Mad Lib games can revolve around the theme of the party. Create a story about the parents-to-be finding out they are pregnant, or write one about the mom-to-be informing her partner that she is expecting a baby. Create an amusing story about a woman’s water breaking, her labor at the hospital, her husband’s reaction as he witnesses the birth of the baby, etc. Numbers that can be inserted into the blanks can be particularly amusing. For example, if you put a blank beside baby’s weight and/or height, a number like 40 or 80 will be hilarious when read aloud. Divide into teams or play as one group. You’ll need one copy of the fill in sheet and one copy of the story sheet for each team.

Planning a Baby Shower

Planning a Baby Shower

Planning a baby shower in early January is a perfect time to take advantage of sales of New Year’s decorations. When planning a baby shower with a New Year’s theme use a black, white, gold and silver color scheme. For baby shower decorations use little plastic babies in diapers, clocks, streamers, confetti, poppers, balloons and mother or father time decorations. Other baby shower decorations such as plastic Champaign glasses, plates, and other place settings may be less expensive after the actual holiday. Construct paper diapers as baby shower invitations, and for a keepsake activity have each guest design a page to be included in a baby book.

Noah’s Ark Baby Shower

Noah’s Ark Baby Shower

A Noah’s Ark baby shower is a wonderful theme for a twin baby shower because all the animals were paired 2 by 2. Hosting a Noah’s Ark baby shower is also a wonderful idea if the mother-to-be is deciding to decorate the nursery in this theme. A two by two icebreaker game begins by having pairs of plastic or stuffed animals. Everyone that comes through the door is given an animal. When everyone has an animal, each person must find the other animal in the pair. They have 5 minutes to find out as much information as they can about each other, and then use that information to introduce each other to the rest of the guests.

The two by two theme makes decorating a breeze for a twin baby shower because there is two of everything. Many dollar stores have inexpensive animal, umbrella, and rainbow items to double up on for decorations. Fill an upside-down umbrella with stuffed animals as an adorable Noah’s Ark baby shower centerpiece.

Scatter shells, starfish, sequins and glitter as under the sea table decorations. Under the sea games and activities will depend on the ages of your guests and the space available. Hold crab walk races, pin the shell on Ariel games or make paper plate jellyfish from paper plate half-circles and ribbons. Freeze gummy sharks in ice cubes to put in a fun under the sea punch.
