Ten years ago children’s fashion was much different then it is now. Kids Clothing is like the rest of fashion in that it is influenced heavily by the events that happen in the world and also by the music that is popular at the time. In the last ten years we have seen an economic crash and the way we live, work and communicate change dramatically. To see the current SS2015 girls fashion trends read our post Girl’s Spring 2015 Fashion Trends.

Children’s Fashion- Trends 10 Years Ago
Ten years ago most kids designers portfolios included a more urban feel. Hip Hop music was in full popularity and Kids Fashion was heavily influenced by Baby Phat, Phatt Farm and Ed Hardy with skulls, skateboards, rock n’ roll insignia, t-shirts, hoodies and sweatsuits all popular for boys.
Girls were wearing more ruffles, peasant tops, layered tops and pants. The 1960’s was a heavy influence on girls clothing. Flouncy pants and halter tops were popular as well as big patterns and mixed fabrics. The “cutesy girl” look was popular.
Children’s Fashion-Trending Now
Today’s fashion for boys has changed and is now more a classic preppy look. More structured shirts, baseball jackets and cap hats with sweaters are featured. Looks from the 1950’s and 1980’s are influencing boys fashion as well as the skateboarding and hip hop cultures are influencing boys fashion. Hip Hop has a lessened effect on Boys Fashion then it had in the last decade. It is more of an assortment of styles.
Girls today are looking towards soft fabrics and a more sophisticated look. More like that of a style that an adult would wear. Cute is still in as it will always be but dressing too cutesy with massive ruffles is out. Tops are more loose flowing with a Gypsy Boho Chic look of the 80’s and 90’s. Novelty tees are still popular and comfort is in! Little girls are dressing more sophisticated and are influenced by the young children of celebrities.
Treasure Box Kids looked to Kids World Magazine and Wikipedia for additional inspiration while writing this article. In the next ten years one thing is for sure, kids fashion will change again. Treasure Box Kids started our company back in 2008 and we have seen many trends come and go throughout the years in children’s fashion.
While you are thinking about how to wash baby clothes, the first thing to keep in mind is the sensitivity of the baby’s skin. Your newborn may tend to break out in rashes during the first year. Take the following precautions to protect the condition of newborn clothes and to prevent unnecessary rashes.
Step by step directions on how to wash baby clothes
Pre-wash all brand new clothing to remove any chemicals from packaging and storage.
Purchase a laundry detergent that is free of dyes and fragrance or a laundry detergent that is designed specifically for babies clothing.
Stay away from bleach or detergents that contain bleach when washing newborn clothing as bleach can cause irritation to your baby’s skin.
Be careful to only use the suggested amount of soap per load to reduce the risk of leaving residual soap on clothing. Run the clothes through an extra rinse cycle if rinse water still contains soap.
Wash baby clothes in cold water. Cold water will keep the clothes from fading and shrinking.
Dryer sheets can be the cause of skin reactions as well. Wool dryer balls cut drying time and leave clothes soft, fluffy and static free without the use of chemicals.

Hold a clothing swap for all of that clothing your child doesn’t wear or never could fit into. Hosting a clothing swap has become a fun trend in the current economy as many of us do our best to stretch household budgets. A swap party is a chance to get several parents together, get rid of old clothes, pick up new clothes and never have to spend a dime.
Set a date and time for friends and family to come over for the clothes swap. You will want to explain to them that they should go through the outgrown clothes of their children and wash them and fold them neatly. (You do not want stained and messy clothes thrown into piles.) Ask them to bring these items with them to your home.
Make simple signs with construction paper and markers or printed off the computer that say the sizes that should be at the swap party. You can have blank paper in case someone brings sizes you were not anticipating. Simply write “12 months girls” or just “12 months.” The more people you have the, more descriptive you may want to make your signs. Place them in different locations in the room so that when guests arrive they can begin to sort out their clothing into appropriated size piles.
Have snacks and drinks available to guests to eat while they “shop.” This event works best if it is child free. That way, they are not rummaging through the piles and messing them up. If guests must bring children you may arrange for a video in a different room or an older teenager to come and entertain them while your guests work through piles.
As guests finish refilling their boxes and bags that they brought their children’s outgrown clothes to the party in with new clothes to take home, you can box up unclaimed clothing that no one wanted to take home (if there are any) and make arrangements to donate them to shelters or other organizations.
