Distant relatives who live far away may not be able to read their favorite books in person to a baby, but they can still share stories in a meaningful way — by making a recording of themselves reading one aloud. Label the recording, and send it with a copy of the book. Personalize the book with a picture and inscription and you will have created a unique baby shower gift to be treasured for years.

Baby Shower Gifts

Giving baby shower gifts is a tradition dating back to the early 1900’s where friends and family would throw a “shower” in much the same way they would for a bridal shower; to “shower” the woman with gifts before her big day. In the early tradition, baby shower gifts were homemade by the guests.

Baby shower gift ideas can be made easy by organizing around baby time. The idea is to assign each guest a certain “time” of day in the babies life; for example, story time, bath time bedtime, feeding time etc. the guests then bring items relating to that time including books, bottles blankets…whatever. This keeps the new mom from having duplicates of different things.

When sending out the baby shower invitations, tell the guests that they are going to have the opportunity to purchase a lotto ticket. However, they will not use money to purchase the lotto ticket. They will supply baby shower gifts such as a small package of diapers, diaper pins, wipes, etc.

When the guests arrive you can begin the baby shower games with this game idea. Have a large calendar hanging for the month of the babys anticipated birth. Have a line going through each day to represent am or pm. The expected due date should be highlighted. Have the guests who purchase lotto tickets choose either am or pm on the day that they feel the baby will be born. There can only be two people per day who can guess any one particular day. Have them write their names on the calendar so the winner can be determined after the arrival of the baby.

Of course they will not know the winner until after the shower. The fun part is how the guests will pick the day that they think the blessed event will take place.

When it comes to baby gifts and baby gift ideas why not create a lasting memory? Here is something others will look at and wish they had thought about for their own childs memories. This makes a perfect new baby gift that will be appreciated for years to come.

On the actual day of the babys birth, be sure to save the newspaper. Get popular magazines from People and Time that are from the week of his/her birth. You always see the cards that make notes of what prices were and who was in office for a particular year. Now, they can have the actual publications from that time for later. The newspaper will have prices and ads for food so it will be fun to compare later.

Put these memory items in a plastic storage box and present it to the parents. Tell them that the reason for the large size box is for them to add to memories to it as baby grows. Over the years it would be nice if they would place articles of importance in there, such as a certain blanket, or stuffed animal.

They will not realize until later how much they appreciate saving those very special things. When children are growing it is easy to toss things aside once a parent feels the child has outgrown the item. If they have a place to store them where they will be safe it will create a lifelong memory.
