Organza the Occasion Fabric

Organza the Occasion Fabric

The Occasion fabric Organza is perfect for luxurious party dresses. Often it is used to make tablecloths, light curtains, and formal dresses. Traditionally this fabric was made of silk and was very expensive. Today, many modern organza’s are woven with synthetic filament fibers such as polyester or nylon. This new synthetic fabric is more common and much less expensive. This fabric is incredibly soft and flowing, unlike other sheer fabrics like tulle, it has less stiffness. Multiple organza layers in a garment will permit a gentle  sway.

Organza Types

  • Crystalorganza
  • Mirror

Crystal and Mirror Organza can be embellished into many different patterns and prints.

  • Sparkled
  • Ruffled
  • Embroidered

Caring for Organza

Easy to care for fabric that most often can simply be thrown in the washing machine and hung to dry. Use the washing machine’s cool or warm setting and take care not to include anything else that could catch onto the fabric. When ironing make sure to keep the iron at a low heat to avoid burning. Some Organza fabric will need dry cleaning.

Uses

Used as an underlying to protect the delicate fabrics that are used in bridal dresses as well as commonly used for constructing little girl’s dresses. The fabric can also be used for party decor, curtains, tablecloths, bags as well as many other applications.

Properties

The silk fiber is chiefly composed of 80% of fibrin, which is protein in nature and 20% of servicing, which is otherwise called as silk gum. Organza is produced in India and the United States as well as other countries.  Often it is made from a mixture of nylon and polyester. Organza can be made very soft or a bit firmer. Organza is one of the materials that can be dyed often very quickly. This characteristic allows it to be used most often in prom and evening dresses to create an airy look.

Quality

The quality depends on the type of silk and how the silk fibers are woven together. The detail and fringe quality of the fabric make it more expensive than most fabrics. Although the highest quality is from France or Italy, fabric produced in India and the United States often uses a mixture of nylon and polyester to create usable organza that is both cost effective and smooth to the touch.

Organza Fabric in clothing

When it comes to attire, organza fabric is a staple of formal dresses as a way to create full skirts and a graceful fall. One of its main uses is in the construction of wedding dresses which help to make the big day all that more special. Between wedding attire and evening fashions, organza fabric has a secure future in the world of fashion. All about Cotton-Care and Use of a Versatile Fabric

We all love cotton and wear it, but do we really know what it consists of, where its mostly made or anything  specific about its production? This fabric is made from a shrub native to tropical and subtropical regions around the world, including The Americas, Africa, and India. There are four commercially grown species of cotton:

  • Gossypium Herbaceum- less than  2% of the worlds population.
  • Gossypium Barbadense- 8% of the worlds population.
  • Gossypium Arboreum- 2% of the world population.
  • Gossypium Hirsutum– which is considered upland cotton that makes up 90% of the world population.

 Cotton Uses

The largest producers are China and India, with annual production anywhere from 27-34 billion bales a year. Most people don’t notice, but cotton is used to create many of the vital necessities of the world such as bed sheets, towels, robes, cambric, coffee filters, jeans and even the shirts on our backs. In addition to the textile industry, it is used in fishing nests, coffee filters, tents and for bookbinding

Cotton Properties

Cotton, on average, is mostly made up of about age 80-90% cellulose. Containing 6-8% water, 0.5-1% of waxes, 0.1.5% of protein, 4- 6% of hemicellulose and pectin’s and 1-1.8% ash.

cotton

There are several different types of cotton fabric about over 2,500 distinguished by structure, appearance and purpose. Here are some  just to name a few.

Gingham: lightweight, washable, stout fabric is a sheer, lightly woven stout fabric that is woven in checks, plaids or stripes

Gauze: sheer, lightly woven fabric similar to cheesecloth. Is also made in silk

Percale: light weight, closely woven, sturdy fabric that can be found printed or in dark or light colors

Flannel: plain or twill weave with a slight nap on one or both sides

Seersucker: lightweight cotton fabric crinkled into lengthwise stripe

Care:

The durability and versatility of this fabric is what makes it a prime choice for our everyday items and luckily it is also very easy to care for cotton. Cotton can be machine washed and dried with no ill effects. To prevent bleeding, similar colors should be washed together on the specific heat setting for that color family. To keep your garments from stretching, dry the article half in the dryer and half on the line. Towels can also be kept soft by using only half of the recommended detergent because detergent residue erodes cotton.

Fall Fabric Show

We were also looking for new sequined and embroidered Organza fabrics for our Birthday Dresses as well as soft crepe linings for our girl’s dresses. High-quality Organza, Crepes, and Satins are very important when we design a girls dress for our Made in the USA line. We want the softest and most durable fabrics for our girl’s line of dresses. I was also impressed with the great assortment of quality cottons at the fall fabric show which gave us great inspiration for summer dresses for 2015 as well as for the Fall of 2015. The vendors gave us quite an education and an assortment of information on the manufacturing process of some of their fabrics. We were pleased to choose vendors that offer a vast assortment of quality fabrics.

TBK- New Line of Kid’s Clothing Made in the USA

Treasure Box Kids Crowd Funding Campaign.

Treasure Box Kids is embarking on a new product line of Kid’s Clothing to carry in it’s store that’s made in the USA!   We are proud to announce that we are making a line of children’s clothing that is made right here in the USA. This line will feature excellent quality, materials and workmanship, designed with your girls comfort in mind. We are hosting our first ever crowd funding campaign on Kickstarter starting in the next few days to gather support to manufacture this new line.

We will be posting articles on the events that have lead up to and that are leading up to the campaign and to the Fall 2014 release of the beginning of the made in the USA line, Girls Dresses.  We have hosted a photo and video shoot with the girls at the Hyatt Grand Cypress in Lake Buena Vista Florida.  We just held our first Treasure Box Kids Fashion Show a few days ago at the Rosen Plaza Hotel International Drive, Orlando Florida. The girls had so much fun and the audience went crazy for the designs.

Kid’s Clothing

The new line of children’s clothing was born because the owner of Treasure Box Kids Carolyn Bailey, who has been a designer for over 20 years,  wanted to bring back the quality that clothing manufactured in the United States used to offer. Apparel manufacturing has been lost to overseas firms and the quality and workmanship of children’s Apparel has suffered greatly. That does not need to be the case. Treasure Box Kids will bring back the quality of fabrics and workmanship to children’s clothing. Children’s clothing will once again be able to be passed down to future generations.

Kid’s Clothing

Our new styles made in the USA will be timeless in design and also designed to visually enhance the appearance of the child wearing the style. We will also design for the child’s comfort in the fabrics and trims that we choose. No scratchy fabrics or trims for your child.  Mom’s will love the fact that our Birthday Dresses will be able to be worn for more than one occasion.

Birthday Party in The Park

A birthday party in the park is a great place to hold a larger birthday party in warmer weather.

Birthday Party in The Park

Birthday Party in The Park

Large families often find that holding a kids birthday party in the park helps tremendously with the activity portion of the party because the park has activities built in. Kites, bubbles, races, and playground equipment keep the kids entertained for hours.

Benefits of a Birthday Party in The Park

A park party is easy to decorate with balloons and a table cloth for the picnic tables. If the park has a barbecue then food can be prepared ahead of time and cooked later at the park. Parks have plenty of parking and are easy to find for drop off and pick up of little guests. Large families can bring food for a pot-luck style event where multiple generations can join in the fun.

Things to keep in mind for your Birthday Party in The Park

Plan ahead for your birthday party in the park by reserving the area with park representatives or the city. Arrive early to decorate tables and add balloons. The park is a perfect place for a Butterfly Party or active boys Baseball Party.

4th of July Celebrations

4th of July celebrations are just around the corner. It is time to start planning for a red white and blue day of fun with family and friends. 4th of July celebrations are filled with back yard barbeques, watermelon, swimming, activities and fireworks. Here are some ideas for 4th of July games and activities for kids.

Make Patriotic Pinwheels for 4th of July Celebrations:

  • Supplies needed: construction paper (the thicker the better), scissors, paper punch, a push-pin, a pencil with an eraser. Decorate with markers, glitter, stickers or crayons
  • Start by making two square pieces of paper.
    • To make a square, put the two pieces of paper together. Fold the corner of the pieces of paper over .
    • To finish making the squares, cut off the small rectangles, forming two squares (which are already folded into a triangle).
    • Fold the triangle in half. Unfold the paper.
  • Decorate one side of each sheet of paper.
  • Put the undecorated sides of the paper together.
  • Make four cuts along the fold lines – about halfway to the center.
  • Punch four holes in the pinwheel, one at each corner.
  • Gently gather each of the four points (with a hole) to the center. (Be careful not to crease the paper.)
  • Push a push-pin through the four punched holes through the center of the pinwheel to attach the pinwheel to the side of a pencil’s eraser.

Make Star Wands for 4th of July Celebrations:

  • Supplies needed: poster board or foam, cardboard star, scissors, dowel, craft glue, red, silver and blue glitter.
    • Trace star pattern twice onto poster board or foam and cut out.
    • Spread glue all over one side of each star.
    • Press stars together with dowel in the middle and let dry.
  • Cover the front of star with a layer of glue and sprinkle glitter over the still-wet glue.
  • Let dry.

Hold a 4th of July Scavenger Hunt

Before the hunt begins, let them design their own bags. Give each child a plain brown paper lunch sack. Set out crayons, star and flag themed stickers and let them be creative!

Make a list of 10 items that are Independence Day related (think Flags, Stars and Stripes). Give the list to each child with a bag to collect the items. Whoever collects all the items first wins!

Host a Mini 4th of July Parade

Gather the children together to hold their own parade. Have the children decked out in 4th of July dresses or red, white and blue outfits. Play some patriotic music while the children march with their pinwheels, flags or star wands. At the end of the parade and all the 4th of July celebrations have the children throw confetti in the air to make their own safe fireworks show for the adults.
